It is associated with energy for causes, teams and friendships built around shared goals. Finding it needs a birth time and place. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Placement | Mars in the 11th house | | The 11th house | Friends and Future Hopes | | Life areas | friends, groups, networks, causes and hopes for the future | | House type | Succedent (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th): houses of building and keeping | | Natural sign and ruler (modern convention) | Aquarius · Saturn (traditional) · Uranus (modern) | | Planetary joy (Hellenistic) | No: the 11th is Jupiter's joy | | House system | Whole sign: the whole sign on the cusp is the house, counted from the rising sign | | Needs | Birth date, time and place (for the rising sign) | ## Mars in the 11th house: personality and expression Mars's house shows where a person pushes hardest: the area of life that stirs competitiveness and impatience, where they take initiative, and where conflict is most likely to flare. The 11th house covers friends, groups, networks and hopes for the future. A planet here colours the communities a person joins, the causes they back and the futures they work towards. Groups, communities and future goals are where an 11th house Mars often aims its drive. People with this placement are often activists in some form, whether organising a petition, coaching a youth team or rallying friends behind a new project. They can be energised by collaborative effort and a sense of shared purpose. Friction may arise within groups, where they push for action while others prefer discussion. They are often clear about their hopes for the future and willing to fight for them. The pattern to notice is a tendency toward either leading the group forcefully or rebelling against it entirely. ## Mars in the 11th house in love and relationships In love Mars describes desire and pursuit, and also how someone handles conflict: whether they fight, freeze, sulk or clear the air. It shows what a person finds exciting in another, and how they act once they have decided they are interested. In relationships, the 11th house values friendship within love, shared ideals and a partner who fits into the wider circle. Friends often meet partners here, and partners are often expected to become friends. In love and friendship, an 11th house Mars often values partners who are also friends and allies. Relationships may begin through a group, a club or a shared cause. People with this placement often want a partner who supports their wider involvements and does not resent time spent with friends. Friendships can be lively, loyal and sometimes combative, with debates over plans or ideals. Falling out with a friend can feel like a big loss, especially when it involves a whole group. Being honest about personal needs, rather than hiding them behind the collective, often keeps closeness healthy. ## Mars in the 11th house at work and in daily life At work Mars shows energy and ambition: how someone starts things, competes, handles pressure and pushes through when a task gets hard. It also describes how they react to being blocked, overruled or made to wait on somebody else. At work, the 11th house favours teams, networks, organisations and causes, and shows how a person collaborates towards a shared aim. Professional networks, online communities and long-term goals that outlast any one job live here too. Teamwork, networking, community organising, tech, nonprofits and campaigning tend to suit this placement, as does any role that involves mobilising people. A person with Mars in the 11th house may be the one who gets a group moving or starts a new initiative within an organisation. They can be very effective at building alliances. Conflicts may come from impatience with group processes, or from strong views on how things should change. Long-term goals tend to motivate them. Learning when to lead, when to follow and when to let a group decide often makes their contribution more effective. ## Strengths, challenges and the house Strengths often linked with Mars in the 11th house: mobilises groups toward goals; loyal, energetic friend; and fights for future-focused causes. The usual challenges are impatience with group process, friction with friends over plans and rebelling against the collective. It can help to choose one cause or community where your energy feels most useful, rather than spreading it widely. In groups, try asking others how they want to proceed before setting the pace. Setting a personal long-term goal alongside collective ones may keep you grounded. When a friendship becomes tense, a private conversation often works better than a group debate. The 11th is a succedent house, one of the four that build and keep what the angular houses start. It sits opposite the 5th house, the area of creativity, romance, play, pleasure and children, and the two are read as an axis, so what happens in one tends to echo in the other. A modern teaching convention pairs it with Aquarius, the 11th sign of the zodiac, which is why the two are often described in similar terms. In Hellenistic astrology the 11th was Jupiter's joy, which colours the house's older meaning. ## How the 11th house is found in a Unified Reading Unified Reading uses whole sign houses: each house is one whole sign, so the 11th house is the 11th sign counted from the rising sign, which is the 1st. With Aries rising it is Aquarius; with Libra rising it is Leo. Mars is in your 11th house when it was in that sign at birth. The rising sign changes about every two hours, so the house needs a birth time and place; without them the reading counts solar houses from the Sun sign and says so. The sign on a house also colours it: a fire sign there tends to act quickly, an earth sign practically, an air sign through talk and ideas, a water sign privately and by feel. The free preview gives a first look at your houses; the $4.99 Full Reading draws the full chart wheel, names your chart ruler and writes up the placements that stand out. Aspects and transits are not calculated. Numerology and the Chinese zodiac have no houses, so the reading sets this beside your Life Path, animal and life stage and notes where they agree, rather than forcing a match. ## Mars in every house - [Mars in the 1st house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-1st-house) - [Mars in the 2nd house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-2nd-house) - [Mars in the 3rd house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-3rd-house) - [Mars in the 4th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-4th-house) - [Mars in the 5th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-5th-house) - [Mars in the 6th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-6th-house) - [Mars in the 7th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-7th-house) - [Mars in the 8th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-8th-house) - [Mars in the 9th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-9th-house) - [Mars in the 10th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-10th-house) - [Mars in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-11th-house) - [Mars in the 12th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-12th-house) ## Other planets in the 11th house - [Sun in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/sun-in-11th-house) - [Moon in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/moon-in-11th-house) - [Mercury in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mercury-in-11th-house) - [Venus in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/venus-in-11th-house) - [Mars in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/mars-in-11th-house) - [Jupiter in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/jupiter-in-11th-house) - [Saturn in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/saturn-in-11th-house) - [Uranus in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/uranus-in-11th-house) - [Neptune in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/neptune-in-11th-house) - [Pluto in the 11th house](https://unifiedreading.com/astrology/pluto-in-11th-house) ## Frequently asked questions ### Why does Mars in the 11th house clash with friends?
