In numerology the day gives birthday number 1. The Life Path also uses the birth year. Sagittarius is mutable and fire. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Sagittarius in every year from 1930 to 2030 | | Decan | Sagittarius decan 1 (Jupiter) or Sagittarius decan 2 (Mars) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 9° Sagittarius | | Sagittarius · element · modality · ruler | Fire · Mutable · Jupiter | | Birthday number | 1 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 11 · 1970: 3 · 1980: 4 · 1990: 5 · 2000: 6 · 2010: 7 · 2020: 8 | | Chinese zodiac | After Lunar New Year, so the animal is the birth year's own | | Born on this day | Pablo Escobar (1949), Sebastián Piñera (1949), Bette Midler (1945) | ## Personality of a December 1 birthday December opens with the Sun at about nine degrees of Sagittarius, the closing stretch of the Jupiter decan. The birthday number 1 sharpens the sign's love of freedom into a desire to lead. The traditional picture is a bold, candid self-starter who prefers open roads to well-worn paths and has little patience for unnecessary rules. By noon UTC on December 1, the Sun has normally reached roughly 9° of Sagittarius. That places the date in the Sagittarius decan that astrologers give to Jupiter, the first of three. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and presides over its first decan as well, from about November 23 to December 1. This is traditionally the most expansive, optimistic stretch of the sign. Natives are often described as adventurous, generous and philosophical, eager to travel, learn and share whatever they have discovered. Humour and candour come easily, and so can a tendency to say the true thing a little too bluntly. Doubled Jupiter can make commitments multiply faster than time allows. These Archers tend to thrive when their search for meaning has room to roam but also somewhere to come home to. ## Numerology of the December 1 birthday Born on the 1st, your birthday number is a plain 1, with no compound behind it. In Pythagorean numerology the day of birth is a secondary number, a talent or flavour that sits alongside the Life Path rather than replacing it. A first-of-the-month birthday is traditionally read as the purest form of initiative: a self-starting streak, a preference for making decisions personally and a comfort with going first. Because there is nothing to reduce, the energy is often described as direct and uncomplicated. The usual counsel is to pair that independence with listening, so leadership does not become lonely. Because the year enters the Life Path calculation, the same December 1 birthday leads to different paths across generations, among them 4 for 1980, 5 for 1990, 6 for 2000 and 7 for 2010. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. The Life Path calculator does the reduction for any year. ## December 1 in context: the season, Chinese zodiac and famous birthdays December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 1 is the 335th day of the year (336th in a leap year). In most years Capricorn season is under way by December 22, 21 days after this birthday. Chinese astrology is straightforward for a December 1 birthday: the new year began weeks earlier, so the birth year's own animal applies. December 1 is also the birthday of Pablo Escobar (1949), Sebastián Piñera (1949) and Bette Midler (1945). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is December 1?
