The blend is often described as natural leadership with a generous streak: someone who enjoys being in charge, sets an ambitious vision and wants the whole team to share in the rewards when the plan comes together. Astronomically, December 17 puts the Sun near 25° Sagittarius in most years, inside the third ten-degree slice of the sign, which tradition links with Sun. The Sun, ruler of Leo, governs the closing ten degrees of Sagittarius, from about December 12 to December 21. Here the Archer's idealism meets a warm, theatrical streak. Natives of this decan are often described as inspiring, expressive and happiest when sharing big ideas with an audience, whether in a classroom, on a stage or around a long dinner table. Pride and a wish for recognition may sit alongside their generosity. When this decan's fire is aimed at lifting others, it tends to make learning feel like a celebration rather than a lecture, and a crowd feel like a community. ## Birthday number and Life Path for December 17 Born on the 17th, you have the compound 1 + 7 = 8 as your birthday number. The 1 brings ambition and drive, the 7 brings analysis and inner reflection, and together they feed the 8's practical authority. People born on this day are often described as strategic and independent, with good judgement about money, systems and long-term plans. They tend to think before they act, then act decisively. Read as a secondary number, the 17 is traditionally associated with quiet confidence and with achievement that comes from combining a clear vision with patient attention to detail. Add the birth year and the picture shifts again: a December 17 birthday gives Life Path 3 for 1990, 4 for 2000, 5 for 2010 and 6 for 2020. Some birth years on this date reach the master numbers 22 and 33. Read the birthday number as a secondary note beside that main theme. ## Season, Chinese zodiac and famous December 17 birthdays December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 17 is the 351st day of the year (352nd in a leap year). Counting forward, the next sign change, into Capricorn, is usually complete within 5 days, by December 22. By December 17 the Chinese new year is well under way, which means the animal and element are those of the calendar birth year. Among the best-known people with a December 17 birthday are Pope Francis (1936), Humphry Davy (1778) and Milla Jovovich (1975). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is December 17?
