In numerology the day gives birthday number 2. The Life Path also uses the birth year. Sagittarius is mutable and fire. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Sagittarius in every year from 1930 to 2030 | | Decan | Sagittarius decan 1 (Jupiter) or Sagittarius decan 2 (Mars) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 10° Sagittarius | | Sagittarius · element · modality · ruler | Fire · Mutable · Jupiter | | Birthday number | 2 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 3 · 1970: 4 · 1980: 5 · 1990: 6 · 2000: 7 · 2010: 8 · 2020: 9 | | Chinese zodiac | After Lunar New Year, so the animal is the birth year's own | | Born on this day | Britney Spears (1981), Maria Meneghini Callas (1923), Nelly Furtado (1978) | ## The December 2 birthday in astrology Mars, ruler of Aries, becomes sub-ruler as Sagittarius's second decan begins around December 2. That adds fire and courage to an already adventurous sign. The birthday number 2, however, is gentle and cooperative. Interpretively, the blend is a passionate ally: someone who fights hard on behalf of a partner or friend, more than for themselves. Astronomically, December 2 puts the Sun near 10° Sagittarius in most years, inside the second ten-degree slice of the sign, which tradition links with Mars. Mars, ruler of Aries, acts as sub-ruler for the middle of Sagittarius, roughly December 2 to December 11. The sign's love of freedom picks up a sharper, more competitive edge. Early-December birthdays are frequently linked with bold, energetic people who are quick to champion a cause, whether on a playing field, in a debate or on the road. Their honesty may be direct enough to startle. Mars brings drive and courage, along with impatience when life moves slowly. Channelled well, this mix of vision and nerve makes for a natural pioneer, someone willing to test an idea in the real world. ## Birthday number and Life Path for December 2 A birthday on the 2nd gives a birthday number of 2, unreduced and simple. Numerologists treat the day of birth as a secondary influence, a natural skill that colours the main Life Path without overriding it. The 2 is the number of the pair, so it is traditionally linked with tact, sensitivity and an instinct for what other people need. Someone born on this day may be the quiet mediator in a group, noticing tension long before it surfaces. The challenge often described for 2s is voicing their own view rather than adjusting it to keep the peace. Add the birth year and the picture shifts again: a December 2 birthday gives Life Path 6 for 1990, 7 for 2000, 8 for 2010 and 9 for 2020. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. Read the birthday number as a secondary note beside that main theme. ## Season, Chinese zodiac and famous December 2 birthdays December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 2 is the 336th day of the year (337th in a leap year). Counting forward, the next sign change, into Capricorn, is usually complete within 20 days, by December 22. By December 2 the Chinese new year is well under way, which means the animal and element are those of the calendar birth year. Among the best-known people with a December 2 birthday are Britney Spears (1981), Maria Meneghini Callas (1923) and Nelly Furtado (1978). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is December 2?
