In numerology the day gives birthday number 4. The Life Path also uses the birth year. Capricorn is cardinal and earth. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Capricorn in every year from 1930 to 2030 | | Decan | Capricorn decan 1 (Saturn) or Capricorn decan 2 (Venus) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 9° Capricorn | | Capricorn · element · modality · ruler | Earth · Cardinal · Saturn | | Birthday number | 31 → 4 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 5 · 1970: 6 · 1980: 7 · 1990: 8 · 2000: 9 · 2010: 1 · 2020: 11 | | Chinese zodiac | After Lunar New Year, so the animal is the birth year's own | | Born on this day | Henri Matisse (1869), Anthony Hopkins (1937), Alex Ferguson (1941) | ## Personality of a December 31 birthday The year ends with the Sun at around nine degrees of Capricorn, the closing degree of Saturn's first decan, and with 4, the number of foundations. New Year's Eve birthdays therefore look doubly structured. The interpretive reading is someone who reviews, organises and plans naturally, closing one chapter carefully before laying the groundwork for the next. By noon UTC on December 31, the Sun has normally reached roughly 9° of Capricorn. That places the date in the Capricorn decan that astrologers give to Saturn, the first of three. Saturn rules Capricorn and also governs the sign's first decan, which spans roughly December 22 to December 31. Birthdays here arrive at the turning point of the year, and this decan is traditionally read as the sign in its most concentrated form: patient, ambitious, realistic and willing to climb slowly. Responsibility often arrives early in life for these natives. Doubled Saturn can make them hard on themselves and reluctant to rest until the work is complete. Their quiet authority tends to grow with age, and humour, usually dry, is one of the ways they lighten what they carry. ## Numerology of the December 31 birthday Born on the 31st, your compound is 3 + 1 = 4. The 3 brings creativity and the 1 brings drive, and the 4 that results gives them a practical shape. People born on this day are often described as builders with imagination, able to design a plan and then see it through with steady effort. They tend to value loyalty and long-term commitment. In its supporting role, the 31 is traditionally associated with organising creative ideas into something lasting. Leaving room for spontaneity helps, since structure can harden into routine if nothing new is let in. Because the year enters the Life Path calculation, the same December 31 birthday leads to different paths across generations, among them 7 for 1980, 8 for 1990, 9 for 2000 and 1 for 2010. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. The Life Path calculator does the reduction for any year. ## December 31 in context: the season, Chinese zodiac and famous birthdays December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 31 is the 365th day of the year (366th in a leap year). In most years Aquarius season is under way by January 21, 21 days after this birthday. Chinese astrology is straightforward for a December 31 birthday: the new year began weeks earlier, so the birth year's own animal applies. December 31 is also the birthday of Henri Matisse (1869), Anthony Hopkins (1937) and Alex Ferguson (1941). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is December 31?
