Thirteen degrees of Sagittarius sits in the Mars decan, linked with drive and daring, and the birthday number 5 is numerology's traveller, hungry for change. With both systems pointing outward, this date is associated with adventurers and risk-takers, and the traditional lesson is learning when to slow down. Astronomically, December 5 puts the Sun near 13° Sagittarius in most years, inside the second ten-degree slice of the sign, which tradition links with Mars. Mars, ruler of Aries, acts as sub-ruler for the middle of Sagittarius, roughly December 2 to December 11. The sign's love of freedom picks up a sharper, more competitive edge. Early-December birthdays are frequently linked with bold, energetic people who are quick to champion a cause, whether on a playing field, in a debate or on the road. Their honesty may be direct enough to startle. Mars brings drive and courage, along with impatience when life moves slowly. Channelled well, this mix of vision and nerve makes for a natural pioneer, someone willing to test an idea in the real world. ## Birthday number and Life Path for December 5 Born on the 5th, your birthday number is 5, sitting at the exact midpoint of the single digits. Numerologists read the day of birth as a secondary note, a personal knack rather than a fixed fate. The 5 is linked with movement, the senses and curiosity, so a 5th birthday is traditionally associated with adaptability and a low tolerance for monotony. These people often learn fastest by doing and enjoy travel, variety and new company. Freedom matters to them, and so does choosing which commitments are worth the trade, since restlessness can otherwise scatter a great deal of energy. Add the birth year and the picture shifts again: a December 5 birthday gives Life Path 9 for 1990, 1 for 2000, 11 for 2010 and 3 for 2020. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. Read the birthday number as a secondary note beside that main theme. ## Season, Chinese zodiac and famous December 5 birthdays December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 5 is the 339th day of the year (340th in a leap year). Counting forward, the next sign change, into Capricorn, is usually complete within 17 days, by December 22. By December 5 the Chinese new year is well under way, which means the animal and element are those of the calendar birth year. Among the best-known people with a December 5 birthday are Walt Disney (1901), Martin Van Buren (1782) and Bhumibol Adulyadej (1927). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is December 5?
