In numerology the day gives birthday number 2. The Life Path also uses the birth year. Capricorn is cardinal and earth. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Capricorn in every year from 1930 to 2030 | | Decan | Capricorn decan 1 (Saturn) or Capricorn decan 2 (Venus) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 11° Capricorn | | Capricorn · element · modality · ruler | Earth · Cardinal · Saturn | | Birthday number | 2 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 1 · 1970: 11 · 1980: 3 · 1990: 4 · 2000: 5 · 2010: 6 · 2020: 7 | | Chinese zodiac | Always before Lunar New Year, so the animal is the previous calendar year's | | Born on this day | Isaac Asimov (1920), Thérèse of Lisieux (1873), Rudolf Clausius (1822) | ## January 2 zodiac sign and personality Two is the number of partnership, and the 2nd of January gives that cooperative instinct a Capricorn backbone. With the Sun around eleven degrees into the sign, in the Venus-tinged second decan, the pattern is often read as steady diplomacy: someone who builds alliances slowly, remembers favours and tends to prefer a quiet agreement to a loud win. On January 2 the Sun usually sits at about 11° Capricorn, in the second decan, where Venus is the sub-ruler alongside Saturn. In the middle of Capricorn, from 10 to 19 degrees, Venus acts as sub-ruler, borrowed from Taurus. Birthdays from about January 1 to January 10 tend to soften the Goat's seriousness with an appreciation of comfort, quality and beauty. These Capricorns are often pictured as both ambitious and sensual: they want to build something, and they want it well made and pleasant to live with. Loyalty in relationships is usually strong. Venus can make material security feel especially important. Remembering that enjoyment is part of success, not a reward postponed for later, often brings this decan balance. ## January 2 in numerology A birthday on the 2nd gives a birthday number of 2, unreduced and simple. Numerologists treat the day of birth as a secondary influence, a natural skill that colours the main Life Path without overriding it. The 2 is the number of the pair, so it is traditionally linked with tact, sensitivity and an instinct for what other people need. Someone born on this day may be the quiet mediator in a group, noticing tension long before it surfaces. The challenge often described for 2s is voicing their own view rather than adjusting it to keep the peace. The Life Path, the main number in a numerology chart, also uses the birth year, so it changes from one January 2 birthday to the next: it is 1 for 1960, 11 for 1970, 3 for 1980 and 4 for 1990, for example. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. ## Born on January 2: season, famous birthdays and Chinese zodiac A January birthday arrives in the depths of northern winter, a season of short days, stock-taking and fresh resolutions; south of the equator it falls in high summer instead. Most of the month belongs to Capricorn, with Aquarius taking over around January 20. In numerology January is month 1, the number of beginnings and self-direction, which suits a birthday that sits right at the start of the calendar. January 2 is the 2nd day of the year. By January 21, 19 days later, the Sun has usually moved on into Aquarius. For the Chinese zodiac, January 2 always falls before Lunar New Year, which arrives between January 21 and February 20, so someone born on this date takes the animal of the previous calendar year. Well-known people born on January 2 include Isaac Asimov (1920), Thérèse of Lisieux (1873) and Rudolf Clausius (1822). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is January 2?
