In numerology the day gives birthday number 2, while the Life Path also depends on the birth year. Many people born on cusp dates recognise something of both signs. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Capricorn or Aquarius: a cusp date, so the birth year, time and place decide | | Decan | Capricorn decan 3 (Mercury) or Aquarius decan 1 (Uranus) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 29° Capricorn | | Capricorn · element · modality · ruler | Earth · Cardinal · Saturn | | Birthday number | 20 → 2 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 1 · 1970: 11 · 1980: 3 · 1990: 4 · 2000: 5 · 2010: 6 · 2020: 7 | | Chinese zodiac | Always before Lunar New Year, so the animal is the previous calendar year's | | Born on this day | Federico Fellini (1920), André-Marie Ampère (1775), Buzz Aldrin (1930) | ## January 20 zodiac sign and personality The 20th of January sits right on the seam between two signs. In most years the Sun is in the final degree of Capricorn, but a late birth hour or certain years tip it into Aquarius, so the birth time matters. Number 2 suggests a mediator, someone who may translate between tradition and reform with unusual patience. On January 20 the Sun usually sits at about 29° Capricorn, in the third decan, where Mercury is the sub-ruler alongside Saturn. Around January 19 to January 21 the Sun moves from Capricorn into Aquarius, and people born near that border often feel pulled between tradition and reinvention. The exact crossing shifts from year to year, so your Sun sign depends on the year, the time and the place of birth; a calculated chart is the only firm answer. The blend is frequently described as a practical reformer: someone with Capricorn's patience and respect for structure who also carries Aquarius' independent, future-facing streak, wanting to change the system and to do it properly. ## January 20 in numerology A birthday on the 20th reduces as 2 + 0 = 2, giving a birthday number of 2. The 0 is often read as amplifying the 2, intensifying its sensitivity, diplomacy and emotional awareness. Those born on the 20th are frequently described as intuitive companions and natural team members, attuned to atmosphere and moods. They may pick up the feeling in a room before anyone has spoken. As a secondary number in the chart, the 20 tends to show in close relationships and group work. Protecting their own energy, and saying no kindly, is a recurring theme for this birthday. The Life Path, the main number in a numerology chart, also uses the birth year, so it changes from one January 20 birthday to the next: it is 1 for 1960, 11 for 1970, 3 for 1980 and 4 for 1990, for example. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. ## Born on January 20: season, famous birthdays and Chinese zodiac A January birthday arrives in the depths of northern winter, a season of short days, stock-taking and fresh resolutions; south of the equator it falls in high summer instead. Most of the month belongs to Capricorn, with Aquarius taking over around January 20. In numerology January is month 1, the number of beginnings and self-direction, which suits a birthday that sits right at the start of the calendar. January 20 is the 20th day of the year. By January 21, 1 day later, the Sun has usually moved on into Aquarius. For the Chinese zodiac, January 20 always falls before Lunar New Year, which arrives between January 21 and February 20, so someone born on this date takes the animal of the previous calendar year. Well-known people born on January 20 include Federico Fellini (1920), André-Marie Ampère (1775) and Buzz Aldrin (1930). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is January 20?
