Twenty-three reduces to 5, numerology's restless number, and the Sun sits about three degrees into Aquarius in its purest, Uranus-ruled decan. Interpreters tend to describe a mind allergic to routine, quick to spot outdated rules and happiest when experimenting, travelling or meeting people unlike themselves. On January 23 the Sun usually sits at about 3° Aquarius, in the first decan, where Uranus rules the decan as well as the sign. Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius, also governs its opening decan, from about January 21 to January 29. This is traditionally the most independent and inventive part of the sign. Late-January birthdays are commonly linked with original thinkers, interested in the future, technology, social change and the freedom to be exactly themselves. Friendship tends to matter as much as romance, sometimes more. Doubled Uranus can bring a contrarian streak and an emotional detachment that others misread as coldness. Their gift is seeing possibilities ahead of the crowd and inviting others along without pressure. ## January 23 in numerology Born on the 23rd, you have a compound of 2 + 3 = 5. The 2 brings sensitivity and the 3 brings expression, and the 5 that results is curious, social and quick on its feet. People born on the 23rd are often described as excellent communicators with a gift for reading people and a strong appetite for new experiences. Travel, languages and varied work tend to appeal. Among the day numbers, the 23 is traditionally seen as one of the most adaptable. Commitment can feel restrictive, so choosing carefully what to say yes to helps them keep their freedom meaningful. The Life Path, the main number in a numerology chart, also uses the birth year, so it changes from one January 23 birthday to the next: it is 4 for 1960, 5 for 1970, 6 for 1980 and 7 for 1990, for example. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. ## Born on January 23: season, famous birthdays and Chinese zodiac A January birthday arrives in the depths of northern winter, a season of short days, stock-taking and fresh resolutions; south of the equator it falls in high summer instead. Most of the month belongs to Capricorn, with Aquarius taking over around January 20. In numerology January is month 1, the number of beginnings and self-direction, which suits a birthday that sits right at the start of the calendar. January 23 is the 23rd day of the year. By February 19, 27 days later, the Sun has usually moved on into Pisces. For the Chinese zodiac, January 23 sits inside the Lunar New Year window: in 10 of the 121 years from 1924 to 2044 the new year has already begun by this date, so check the year before choosing an animal. Well-known people born on January 23 include David Hilbert (1862), Stendhal (1783) and Megawati Soekarnoputri (1947). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is January 23?
