In numerology the day gives birthday number 9. The Life Path also uses the birth year. Capricorn is cardinal and earth. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Capricorn in every year from 1930 to 2030 | | Decan | Capricorn decan 2 (Venus) or Capricorn decan 3 (Mercury) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 18° Capricorn | | Capricorn · element · modality · ruler | Earth · Cardinal · Saturn | | Birthday number | 9 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 8 · 1970: 9 · 1980: 1 · 1990: 11 · 2000: 3 · 2010: 4 · 2020: 5 | | Chinese zodiac | Always before Lunar New Year, so the animal is the previous calendar year's | | Born on this day | Richard Nixon (1913), Simone de Beauvoir (1908), Karel Čapek (1890) | ## Personality of a January 9 birthday Nine closes the single-digit cycle, and January 9 gives that sense of completion to a sign that likes finishing whatever it starts. The Sun near eighteen degrees of Capricorn, under the Venus sub-ruler, points to a generous, long-sighted temperament: someone who often works hardest for causes larger than personal gain and measures success in decades. By noon UTC on January 9, the Sun has normally reached roughly 18° of Capricorn. That places the date in the Capricorn decan that astrologers give to Venus, the second of three. In the middle of Capricorn, from 10 to 19 degrees, Venus acts as sub-ruler, borrowed from Taurus. Birthdays from about January 1 to January 10 tend to soften the Goat's seriousness with an appreciation of comfort, quality and beauty. These Capricorns are often pictured as both ambitious and sensual: they want to build something, and they want it well made and pleasant to live with. Loyalty in relationships is usually strong. Venus can make material security feel especially important. Remembering that enjoyment is part of success, not a reward postponed for later, often brings this decan balance. ## Numerology of the January 9 birthday Born on the 9th, your birthday number is 9, the last and broadest of the single digits. Numerologists see the birth day as a secondary number that describes a natural gift. The 9 is traditionally associated with compassion, idealism and a wide view of humanity, perhaps because it contains something of every number before it. Those with this birthday often find themselves helping, teaching or creating for audiences beyond their own circle. Letting go can be a recurring theme for 9s, along with learning that finishing one chapter makes space for a better one. Because the year enters the Life Path calculation, the same January 9 birthday leads to different paths across generations, among them 1 for 1980, 11 for 1990, 3 for 2000 and 4 for 2010. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. The Life Path calculator does the reduction for any year. ## January 9 in context: the season, Chinese zodiac and famous birthdays A January birthday arrives in the depths of northern winter, a season of short days, stock-taking and fresh resolutions; south of the equator it falls in high summer instead. Most of the month belongs to Capricorn, with Aquarius taking over around January 20. In numerology January is month 1, the number of beginnings and self-direction, which suits a birthday that sits right at the start of the calendar. January 9 is the 9th day of the year. In most years Aquarius season is under way by January 21, 12 days after this birthday. Chinese astrology counts the year from Lunar New Year, never earlier than January 21, so a January 9 birthday belongs to the animal of the year before the birth year. January 9 is also the birthday of Richard Nixon (1913), Simone de Beauvoir (1908) and Karel Čapek (1890). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is January 9?
