In numerology the day gives birthday number 5, while the Life Path also depends on the birth year. Many people born on cusp dates recognise something of both signs. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Libra or Scorpio: a cusp date, so the birth year, time and place decide | | Decan | Libra decan 3 (Mercury) or Scorpio decan 1 (Pluto) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 29° Libra | | Libra · element · modality · ruler | Air · Cardinal · Venus | | Birthday number | 23 → 5 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 4 · 1970: 5 · 1980: 6 · 1990: 7 · 2000: 8 · 2010: 9 · 2020: 1 | | Chinese zodiac | After Lunar New Year, so the animal is the birth year's own | | Born on this day | Pelé (1940), Paul Kagame (1957), "Weird Al" Yankovic (1959) | ## October 23 zodiac sign and personality The 23rd of October straddles two very different signs. Depending on year and time of birth, the Sun is in the final degree of Libra or the opening of Scorpio. Libra brings charm and balance; Scorpio, ruled by Pluto, brings depth and privacy. Twenty-three reduces to 5, adding curiosity, so the blend reads as sociable on the surface and investigative underneath. On October 23 the Sun usually sits at about 29° Libra, in the third decan, where Mercury is the sub-ruler alongside Venus. The cusp between Libra and Scorpio, around October 22 to October 24, places charm next to intensity. The Sun leaves a cardinal air sign for a fixed water sign at a moment that drifts from year to year, so which one you are depends on the year, hour and place of your birth. A properly calculated chart gives the answer. Traditionally, people near this line blend Libra's social grace with Scorpio's depth and focus. They are often described as magnetic and perceptive, pleasant on the surface and quietly determined underneath, with more going on than they show. ## October 23 in numerology Born on the 23rd, you have a compound of 2 + 3 = 5. The 2 brings sensitivity and the 3 brings expression, and the 5 that results is curious, social and quick on its feet. People born on the 23rd are often described as excellent communicators with a gift for reading people and a strong appetite for new experiences. Travel, languages and varied work tend to appeal. Among the day numbers, the 23 is traditionally seen as one of the most adaptable. Commitment can feel restrictive, so choosing carefully what to say yes to helps them keep their freedom meaningful. The Life Path, the main number in a numerology chart, also uses the birth year, so it changes from one October 23 birthday to the next: it is 4 for 1960, 5 for 1970, 6 for 1980 and 7 for 1990, for example. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 11. ## Born on October 23: season, famous birthdays and Chinese zodiac October birthdays fall in mid-autumn north of the equator, with turning leaves and earlier evenings, and in mid-spring in the southern hemisphere.
