In numerology the day gives birthday number 5, while the Life Path also depends on the birth year. Many people born on cusp dates recognise something of both signs. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sun sign | Virgo or Libra: a cusp date, so the birth year, time and place decide | | Decan | Virgo decan 3 (Venus) or Libra decan 1 (Venus) | | Sun's position at noon UTC | About 0° Libra | | Libra · element · modality · ruler | Air · Cardinal · Venus | | Birthday number | 23 → 5 | | Life Path by birth year | 1960: 3 · 1970: 22 · 1980: 5 · 1990: 6 · 2000: 7 · 2010: 8 · 2020: 9 | | Chinese zodiac | After Lunar New Year, so the animal is the birth year's own | | Born on this day | Bruce Springsteen (1949), Ray Charles (1930), Jaroslav Seifert (1901) | ## The September 23 birthday in astrology Libra season traditionally begins around the 23rd, but whether this birthday is Virgo or Libra depends on the year and hour of birth. In most years the Sun has just reached zero degrees of Libra, in the Venus-ruled first decan. Twenty-three reduces to 5, adding restlessness and sociability, so the blend reads as a polished, curious connector who mixes groups easily. Astronomically, September 23 puts the Sun near 0° Libra in most years, inside the first ten-degree slice of the sign, which tradition links with Venus. Born around September 21 to September 23, close to the equinox, you sit between Virgo and Libra. Earth hands over to air, and practicality to partnership. The precise day and minute of the Sun's move into Libra changes with the year, so your actual sign depends on birth year, time and location, which a natal chart can resolve. Those who feel both influences are often described as refined and thoughtful: careful about details, invested in fairness and drawn to beauty that also works. Decisions may take time, because both signs like to get things right. ## Birthday number and Life Path for September 23 Born on the 23rd, you have a compound of 2 + 3 = 5. The 2 brings sensitivity and the 3 brings expression, and the 5 that results is curious, social and quick on its feet. People born on the 23rd are often described as excellent communicators with a gift for reading people and a strong appetite for new experiences. Travel, languages and varied work tend to appeal. Among the day numbers, the 23 is traditionally seen as one of the most adaptable. Commitment can feel restrictive, so choosing carefully what to say yes to helps them keep their freedom meaningful. Add the birth year and the picture shifts again: a September 23 birthday gives Life Path 6 for 1990, 7 for 2000, 8 for 2010 and 9 for 2020. Some birth years on this date reach the master number 22. Read the birthday number as a secondary note beside that main theme. ## Season, Chinese zodiac and famous September 23 birthdays A September birthday arrives at the turn into autumn for the northern hemisphere, a season of new terms and gathering in, and at the start of spring in the southern. Virgo occupies most of the month, with Libra taking over around September 22 or 23, near the equinox. September is month 9 in numerology, the number of completion, compassion and a broad, humanitarian outlook. September 23 is the 266th day of the year (267th in a leap year). Counting forward, the next sign change, into Scorpio, is usually complete within 31 days, by October 24. By September 23 the Chinese new year is well under way, which means the animal and element are those of the calendar birth year. Among the best-known people with a September 23 birthday are Bruce Springsteen (1949), Ray Charles (1930) and Jaroslav Seifert (1901). ## Frequently asked questions ### What zodiac sign is September 23?
