Year of the Earth Dragon In Chinese astrology, 1928 is the Year of the Earth Dragon, a Yang year. It began at Lunar New Year on January 23, 1928 and ended on February 9, 1929, so people born in 1928 before Jan 23 belong to the Fire Rabbit year. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Animal · element · polarity | Dragon · Earth · Yang | | Starts (Lunar New Year) | January 23, 1928 | | Ends | February 9, 1929 | | Born in 1928 before Jan 23 | Fire Rabbit (the 1927 year) | | Dragon's fixed element | Earth (Earth year element matches the fixed element) | | Other Earth Dragon years (1924-2044) | 1988 | | Stem-branch name | Wu-Chen | | Lunar New Year weekday · Sun sign | Monday · Aquarius | | Numerology year number | 2 | ## When the 1928 Earth Dragon year starts and ends The 1928 Earth Dragon year began at Lunar New Year on January 23, 1928 and lasted until February 9, 1929, the day before the next new year. Anyone born between January 1 and Jan 23 1928 therefore belongs to the Fire Rabbit year that started in 1927, while someone born in early 1929, up to Feb 9, is still a Earth Dragon. The Chinese calendar is lunisolar, which is why the start date moves between January 21 and February 20 instead of staying on January 1. The same Earth Dragon combination also falls in 1988, sixty years apart, because five elements and twelve animals realign only once in each sixty-year cycle. Lunar New Year 1928 fell on a Monday, while the Western Sun was in Aquarius. ## Earth Dragon personality The Earth Dragon year doubles the Dragon's own element, so traditional readings describe a grounded, responsible and fair-minded version of this ambitious sign. People born then are often portrayed as builders of lasting things, who prefer well-planned achievement to grand gestures. Their reliability is a defining trait. The caution usually given is stubbornness, especially once an Earth Dragon has decided what is right. Earth sits at the centre of the five-element wheel, and an Earth year is traditionally said to give any animal steadiness, patience and a practical turn of mind. Descriptions associate it with reliability, honesty and a talent for holding things together, whether that means a family, a budget or a team in a difficult season. Earth-year people are often portrayed as grounded, fair and good at turning ideas into workable plans. The element is linked with nourishment and care, so it carries a quiet generosity. Its shadow, in most readings, is heaviness: worry, stubbornness and a reluctance to move until every risk has been weighed twice. ## 1928 in numerology and the twelve-year cycle In numerology the year's digits reduce to 2, the number of partnership, patience and diplomacy, and a 2 year is traditionally read as one for cooperation rather than solo pushes. The digits of 1928 add up to 20, which reduces to 2. In the twelve-year cycle the Dragon is the fifth animal, earthly branch Chen, with Earth as its fixed element and Yang polarity. The year element is Earth, and in the five-element cycles earth year element matches the fixed element. The year before was the Fire Rabbit and the year after is the Earth Snake. In the traditional sexagenary count the year is called Wu-Chen: Wu is the Earth heavenly stem and Chen is the Dragon's earthly branch. Stems and branches alternate between yang and yin together, which is why yang stems only ever meet yang animals. ## Frequently asked questions ### What Chinese zodiac is 1928? 1928 is the Year of the Earth Dragon.
