Year of the Metal Snake In Chinese astrology, 1941 is the Year of the Metal Snake, a Yin year. It began at Lunar New Year on January 27, 1941 and ended on February 14, 1942, so people born in 1941 before Jan 27 belong to the Metal Dragon year. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Animal · element · polarity | Snake · Metal · Yin | | Starts (Lunar New Year) | January 27, 1941 | | Ends | February 14, 1942 | | Born in 1941 before Jan 27 | Metal Dragon (the 1940 year) | | Snake's fixed element | Fire (Fire controls Metal) | | Other Metal Snake years (1924-2044) | 2001 | | Stem-branch name | Xin-Si | | Lunar New Year weekday · Sun sign | Monday · Aquarius | | Numerology year number | 6 | ## When the 1941 Metal Snake year starts and ends The 1941 Metal Snake year began at Lunar New Year on January 27, 1941 and lasted until February 14, 1942, the day before the next new year. Anyone born between January 1 and Jan 27 1941 therefore belongs to the Metal Dragon year that started in 1940, while someone born in early 1942, up to Feb 14, is still a Metal Snake. The Chinese calendar is lunisolar, which is why the start date moves between January 21 and February 20 instead of staying on January 1. The same Metal Snake combination also falls in 2001, sixty years apart, because five elements and twelve animals realign only once in each sixty-year cycle. Lunar New Year 1941 fell on a Monday, while the Western Sun was in Aquarius. ## Metal Snake personality A Metal Snake year is linked with sharp-minded, self-possessed and strategic people. The Snake's Fire shapes Metal like a smith at a forge, so traditional readings describe insight refined into precise purpose. Those born then often have exacting taste and remarkable persistence. The usual caution is coolness or secrecy, which earlier sharing of plans tends to ease. Their patience can outlast almost any obstacle. Metal is the element of autumn and harvest, and a Metal year is traditionally said to sharpen whatever animal it meets. Descriptions associate it with determination, discipline, clear judgement and a strong code of principle. Metal-year people are often portrayed as decisive, self-reliant and willing to do difficult things because they are right. The element is linked with refinement and with cutting away what is unnecessary, so it tends to bring focus and high standards. Its traditional shadow is rigidity: Metal can become inflexible, proud or emotionally guarded, preferring to be correct over being close, and finding it hard to bend once a position is taken. ## 1941 in numerology and the twelve-year cycle In numerology the year's digits come to 6, linked with home, care and responsibility, so a 6 year is read as one centred on family and commitments. The digits of 1941 add up to 15, which reduces to 6. In the twelve-year cycle the Snake is the sixth animal, earthly branch Si, with Fire as its fixed element and Yin polarity. The year element is Metal, and in the five-element cycles fire controls Metal. The year before was the Metal Dragon and the year after is the Water Horse. In the traditional sexagenary count the year is called Xin-Si: Xin is the Metal heavenly stem and Si is the Snake's earthly branch. Stems and branches alternate between yang and yin together, which is why yin stems only ever meet yin animals. ## Frequently asked questions ### What Chinese zodiac is 1941? 1941 is the Year of the Metal Snake.
