It combines the Goat's gentleness with Metal's qualities. Metal Goat years between 1924 and 2044 are 1931 and 1991. The Goat's fixed element is Earth. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Year element · animal · polarity | Metal · Goat · Yin | | Stem-branch name | Xin-Wei | | Years (each starts at Lunar New Year) | 1931 (Feb 17, 1931 – Feb 5, 1932); 1991 (Feb 15, 1991 – Feb 3, 1992) | | Goat's fixed element | Earth · Earth generates Metal | | San He trine | Rabbit, Goat, Pig (Wood) | | Liu He · Liu Chong · Liu Hai | Horse · Ox · Rat | ## The Metal Goat personality Here the Goat gives of itself to make something firmer: Earth generates Metal, and the Goat's fixed element is Earth, so its soft, nurturing substance is said to feed a stem of resolve and definition. What emerges, in most accounts, is a Goat with backbone. Metal Goats are pictured as artistic but disciplined, sensitive yet surprisingly determined once they care about an outcome. Their eye for detail and quality is sharp, and they often hold strong aesthetic and moral views beneath a mild exterior. Protective of loved ones, they can be fierce on their behalf. Pouring so much into Metal leaves less for the Goat's easy-going side, however, so perfectionism, private insecurity and a wounded pride are recurring notes in descriptions. Belonging to the west and to the clear, cool air of autumn, Metal adds edge, resolve and structure to any sign it colours. Classical texts connect it with righteousness, strength of will and the ability to see a situation without sentiment. A Metal stem often makes an animal more ambitious, more organised and more self-contained than usual. People born in Metal years are frequently described as loyal to their word and tireless once committed. The caution most readings add is a hardness that can isolate them, along with perfectionism and a reluctance to admit doubt or ask for help. ## Metal Goat at work and in love At work, Metal is usually linked with discipline, precision and principled leadership. Metal-year people are often described as the ones who set standards, cut through confusion and finish what they start, which suits law, engineering, finance, surgery, editing and any role that values exactness. They tend to work well alone and lead by example. The traditional caution is inflexibility: a Metal stem can dismiss ideas that arrive untidily, so practising curiosity before judgement usually makes them better leaders. With a Metal stem, the Goat's creativity gains structure and resolve. Fine art, architecture, jewellery, editing and design management come up often, since refined taste and high standards are prized there. Its best output comes with clear expectations, time to perfect details and a calm studio, and unexpected changes of plan can unsettle it for days. In relationships, the Metal Goat is devoted and protective of its inner circle, though more guarded than other Goats at first. It needs loyalty and a peaceful, beautiful home. The typical friction is sensitivity to criticism: a passing remark may wound deeply and be remembered long after the other person has forgotten saying it. ## Metal Goat years and dates Metal Goat years in the Lunar New Year table run from February 17, 1931 to February 5, 1932 and from February 15, 1991 to February 3, 1992. Because the year begins at Lunar New Year, a birthday in January or early February needs checking: in 1931 anyone born before Feb 17 is a Metal Horse, not a Metal Goat. Sixty years separate each Metal Goat year, the length of a full round of five elements and twelve animals. Every Metal Goat year is Yin, matching the Goat's own polarity. Its traditional name is Xin-Wei: Xin is the yin Metal stem and Wei is the Goat's branch. Births just before each new year fall in the Metal Horse year (before February 17, 1931) and the Metal Horse year (before February 15, 1991), and births in the weeks after each Metal Goat year ends belong to the Water Monkey. The new year itself fell on a Tuesday in 1931 and Friday in 1991. ## Growth edges and compatibility for the Metal Goat Gentleness towards themselves is often the missing ingredient for Metal Goats. They apply exacting standards inwardly first, so noticing self-criticism and answering it as a kind friend would can loosen its grip. Finishing work and letting it be seen, flaws and all, builds the confidence their talent deserves. Metal Goats also find that soft, unstructured time, wandering a market, sketching without aim, dozing in the sun, refills what discipline drains. In close bonds, saying 'that hurt' directly works far better than a cool withdrawal. Held in that balance, their refined judgement becomes a gift people seek out. For relationships, the classical structures belong to the animal rather than the element, so the Metal Goat shares the Goat's San He trine with the Rabbit and Pig (the Wood trine), its Liu He bond with the Horse, and its Liu Chong clash with the Ox. The element adds a second layer: another Metal sign shares this year element, while partners whose year element feeds Metal in the generating cycle are often described as supportive. ## Metal Goat years - [1931 (Metal Goat)](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/1931) - [1991 (Metal Goat)](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/1991) ## Frequently asked questions ### What years are Metal Goat years? Between 1924 and 2044: 1931 (from February 17, 1931) and 1991 (from February 15, 1991). Each lasts until the day before the next Lunar New Year. ### What is the Metal Goat's element relationship? The year element is Metal and the Goat's fixed element is Earth; in the five-element cycles earth generates Metal. Readings use that relationship to describe how easily the two sides of the sign sit together. ### Which animals are most compatible with the Metal Goat? Traditionally the Rabbit and Pig (San He) and the Horse (Liu He). The Ox is the Liu Chong clash. These pairings depend on the animal, whatever the element. ### What is the Metal Goat called in the Chinese calendar? Xin-Wei. In almanacs and Four Pillars charts each year is named by its heavenly stem, here the Metal stem Xin, followed by its earthly branch, here Wei for the Goat, so the name pins down both halves of the combination at once. ### How is the Metal Goat different from other Goats? All Goats share gentleness, creativity and empathy. The Metal year element changes the tone: metal is the element of autumn and harvest, and a Metal year is traditionally said to sharpen whatever animal it meets. ## Related pages - [Goat](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/goat) - [1931 (Metal Goat)](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/1931) - [1991 (Metal Goat)](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/1991) - [Water Goat](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/water-goat) - [Wood Goat](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/wood-goat) - [Fire Goat](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/fire-goat) - [Earth Goat](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/earth-goat) - [Metal Horse](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/metal-horse) - [Metal Dragon](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/metal-dragon) - [Chinese zodiac years](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/years) - [Chinese zodiac calculator](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac-calculator) - [Goat and Goat](https://unifiedreading.com/chinese-zodiac/compatibility/goat-and-goat) ## About Unified Reading Unified Reading combines Pythagorean numerology, the Western Sun sign (Moon and rising with a birth time), the Chinese zodiac and life-stage context in one reading.
