Moon Sign Calculator

Your Moon sign is the tropical zodiac sign containing the Moon’s calculated geocentric longitude at your birth moment. Enter your birth date, time and selected birthplace to find it.

Calculate your moon sign

Your date, time and selected coordinates go to Unified Reading only to calculate this placement; they are not saved. Place suggestions use OpenStreetMap. No name is needed.

A Moon placement from your actual birth inputs

This calculator asks for the date, local time and place of birth, then returns the Moon placement calculated by the shared Unified Reading chart engine. It does not substitute your Sun sign or use a table that assigns one Moon sign to everyone born on a particular calendar date. The result belongs to the supplied moment, so the inputs remain part of the answer.

Unified Reading uses Moon interpretations as prompts about comfort, habits and emotional needs. These are interpretive themes, not a diagnosis or an observation of your inner life. You may recognize some descriptions and reject others. The purpose of finding the placement is to make a reflection more specific while keeping your experience, relationships and choices in view.

How the calculation works

The chart engine resolves local birth time through the selected birthplace’s time zone. It then uses Astronomy Engine to calculate the Moon’s geocentric ecliptic longitude for that moment. The Astronomy Engine documentation describes the astronomical calculations and coordinate transforms used by the library. Unified Reading divides the longitude into twelve equal tropical signs, with 30 degrees assigned to each sign.

This is a tropical placement, using the same convention as the rest of the Unified Reading Western chart. It is not a sidereal result. The wider natal chart uses whole sign houses, but choosing a house system does not replace the longitude used for this Moon-sign output. This page returns the placement rather than a full house interpretation or combined reading.

Why the time and selected place are required

Use your local recorded birth time and select the actual birthplace, checking the region when cities share a name. The selected location provides a time zone so the entered clock time can be converted consistently. For this geocentric Moon placement, the place’s essential role is identifying that birth moment; it is not a claim that the Moon takes a different geocentric longitude for each city at the same instant.

IANA’s Time Zone Database tracks historical offsets and daylight-saving rules. Let the calculator apply the selected zone instead of adjusting for daylight saving yourself. If a clock-change night leaves the recorded time ambiguous, the form cannot independently recover which moment was intended. Check the record before relying on a narrow degree difference between two results.

What to do with an uncertain birth time

If you only know an approximate time, treat the result as conditional on that estimate. One practical check is to run both ends of the plausible interval. If the Moon falls in different signs, retain both possibilities until you have better information. If it stays in one sign, that comparison supports the sign within your chosen interval; it does not establish the accuracy of the interval itself.

Do not enter a guessed time because one interpretation feels more familiar. The existing chart engine has a separate solar-chart mode for missing information, where it checks sign changes across an uncertainty window. This focused calculator instead requires a time and place. The wider free preview can explain what remains available when a full birth record is missing.

Degrees, sign boundaries and honest precision

The engine obtains a longitude first and derives the sign from it. A position just below a 30-degree boundary and one just above it belong to adjacent signs in this method. The engine uses a 0.05-degree tolerance to flag charts near a boundary as approximate. That caution is not a guarantee that every input outside the tolerance is exact.

When another calculator disagrees, compare the date format, AM or PM, selected city, local clock rules and tropical or sidereal setting before comparing interpretations. A decimal degree can make a result look more certain than the underlying record. Preserve any approximation label, particularly when sharing a screenshot or copying the sign into a journal.

Turn the result into useful reflection

Visit the matching Moon-sign page for the interpretation used in the library. Choose a specific question, such as what helps you recover after an exhausting day or what kind of support you can ask for clearly. Compare the suggested theme with concrete experiences. You do not need to explain every feeling through the placement, and another person’s sign cannot tell you what support they want.

You can compare the result with your Sun and rising signs, or use the date box to open the free preview. Unified Reading combines those available placements with numerology, Chinese zodiac and life stage. That broader context offers more questions to explore without turning the Moon sign into a prediction of your behaviour or your future.
