It is read as big-hearted generosity expanded by jupiter's optimism and vision. Decans are a traditional refinement of the Sun sign. ## Key facts | Fact | Value | | --- | --- | | Sign · decan | Leo · second decan | | Degrees | 10° – 19° Leo | | Typical dates | August 2 – August 12 | | Sub-ruler | Jupiter (from Sagittarius) | | Leo's ruler | Sun | ## Leo decan 2 personality From 10 to 19 degrees, Leo takes Jupiter as sub-ruler, the planet associated with Sagittarius. That influence broadens the Lion's warmth into something expansive and philosophical. Second-decan Leos are often described as generous, optimistic and drawn to big ideas, travel and teaching. They tend to see life as an adventure and like to share what they discover. Their enthusiasm can be infectious, making others believe that ambitious plans are possible. Humour often comes easily, and they frequently enjoy being the one who brings meaning and celebration together. Ask them for a restaurant tip and the answer may arrive with a short history of the cuisine and an invitation to come along. Jupiter amplifies Leo's natural confidence, which can be a powerful combination. These natives often inspire through vision as much as through charisma. The risk is excess: overspending, overcommitting or overestimating what one person can do. Pride can also take a moral tone, with a strong conviction about what is right. Traditional writers associated this decan with good fortune and wise counsel. In everyday life it often appears as a mentor, coach or host who wants everyone to grow. When balanced with realism, their generosity creates lasting goodwill and opens doors for others. Many second-decan Lions keep a mental list of people they intend to introduce to one another. ## Leo decan 2 in love and at work Second-decan Leos tend to be generous, fun-loving partners who enjoy sharing experiences. Travel, learning and celebrations often feature strongly in their relationships. They are typically affectionate and want a partner who shares their zest for life and their wish to grow. Honesty matters greatly; they prefer open conversation to hidden tension. They may need freedom as well as admiration. A partner who joins their adventures, supports their ideals and occasionally grounds their plans tends to make an excellent match for this expansive decan. At work, this decan often excels in roles that combine leadership with teaching or vision. Education, publishing, travel, coaching, politics, the performing arts and international business can appeal. They tend to inspire colleagues with optimism and big-picture thinking. Detailed administration can bore them, and they may promise more than is practical. Delegating details and setting realistic timelines helps them deliver on their vision. Their generosity in mentoring others often builds loyal teams and creates a strong reputation over time. A role with room to teach what they know is often where they feel most themselves. ## Dates and sub-ruler of Leo decan 2: what Jupiter adds The second decan covers 10° to 19° of Leo, which in most years means birthdays from August 2 to August 12. Its sub-ruler, Jupiter, comes from Sagittarius, the next fire sign after Leo, so this decan borrows a little of Sagittarius's character while staying Leo at heart. The other two decans of Leo belong to the Sun (decan 1) and Mars (decan 3). Because decans are measured in degrees rather than days, the calendar dates drift by a day or so between years. Jupiter widens the view, adding optimism, generosity and an appetite for meaning. Its decans are often described as more philosophical and adventurous, drawn to teaching, travel and big ideas, and sometimes prone to overpromising. Jovial decans are often linked with philosophy, scholarship, publishing, law and long journeys, and their usual lesson is to match vision with follow-through. Set against Leo's warmth, generosity, creative confidence and a big, loyal heart, that Jupiter note shifts the emphasis without changing the sign underneath. ## Growth for Leo decan 2 Growth for second-decan Leos often involves matching enthusiasm with realism. Try checking plans against resources before committing. Notice when generosity becomes overextension, and protect time and money for the essentials. When convictions run strong, practise listening to differing views with curiosity rather than correction. Reflection, through reading, journalling or quiet travel, can deepen their wisdom. Their capacity to uplift others is a genuine strength, and it lasts longest when supported by careful planning and an honest sense of personal limits. A modest budget for spontaneity can satisfy Jupiter without draining the account. Within Leo, decan 1 leans towards radiant self-expression and warm-hearted confidence at full strength and decan 3 leans towards bold, fiery courage that turns pride into decisive action. A decan is one layer of a chart among many, so the Moon, rising sign and houses can strengthen or soften everything described here. These notes work best as prompts for reflection: notice which lines ring true, which feel foreign, and what that contrast suggests. ## Birthdays in Leo decan 2 - [August 2](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-2) - [August 3](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-3) - [August 4](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-4) - [August 5](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-5) - [August 6](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-6) - [August 7](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-7) - [August 8](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-8) - [August 9](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-9) - [August 10](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-10) - [August 11](https://unifiedreading.com/birthday/august-11) ## Frequently asked questions ### How does Jupiter influence the second decan of Leo?
