October Birthdays: Zodiac Signs, Decans and Numerology for Every Day

Zodiac signs and decans in October

October begins with the closing days of Libra's first decan, where Venus is doubled and grace and diplomacy come first. From around October 3 the second decan brings Uranus as sub-ruler, turning Libra's sense of fairness towards society and ideals. Around October 14 the third decan begins, and Mercury makes the scales more verbal and quick-witted. Then, around October 23, the Sun moves into Scorpio. The change from cardinal air to fixed water is often felt as a drop in temperature and a rise in intensity: the polite conversation turns into the honest one. The last week of October sits in Scorpio's first decan, where Pluto rules twice. People born near the switch frequently combine charm on the surface with considerable depth underneath, and know how to use both.

In most years October birthdays from the 1st to the 23rd are Libra, and from the 24th they are Scorpio. The cusp dates, where the sign can differ by year or time zone, are October 22, 23 and 24; each has its own page explaining both possibilities. Decan by decan, the month opens in the first decan of Libra, linked with Venus, from the 3rd the second decan of Libra, linked with Uranus, from the 14th the third decan of Libra, linked with Mercury and from the 24th the first decan of Scorpio, linked with Pluto.

October birthdays in numerology and the Chinese zodiac

October is month 10, and in Pythagorean numerology 10 reduces to 1, linking it with initiative, self-reliance and fresh beginnings. The extra 0 is often read as amplifying the 1, giving October birthdays a slightly larger sense of potential than January's plain 1. In the Chinese zodiac, October birthdays take the calendar year's animal. The Dog month of the Four Pillars system begins around October 8 with the solar term Cold Dew, so most October birthdays have the Dog in the month pillar. The Dog is traditionally described as loyal, principled and protective of the people it trusts, qualities that suit both Libra's concern for justice and Scorpio's fierce loyalty. With the independent 1 alongside, October can suggest someone who stands on their own while standing up for others.

Every page for an October date lists the Life Path for several birth years, because the year changes the total even when the day stays the same.

Famous October birthdays

Each October page lists the best-known people born on that date, drawn from Wikidata and ranked by how many Wikipedia language editions have an article about them. A sample across the month: Jimmy Carter (October 1), Rutherford B. Hayes (October 4), Vladimir Putin (October 7), Fridtjof Nansen (October 10), Margaret Thatcher (October 13), Günter Grass (October 16), Miguel Ángel Asturias (October 19), Doris Lessing (October 22), Katy Perry (October 25), Bill Gates (October 28) and Katsushika Hokusai (October 31). Sharing a birthday with someone well known says nothing about a life's direction, but it is a pleasant way into the date's sign, decan and numbers, which each page then explains in turn. The lists favour people with a precisely recorded birth date in the modern Gregorian calendar, so some much-celebrated figures from earlier centuries are missing.
