The December 8 birthday in astrology
December 8 carries a strong, forthright energy. Sixteen degrees of Sagittarius falls in the second decan, where Mars adds competitiveness to Jupiterian confidence, and the birthday number 8 concerns power and results. The interpretive picture is an ambitious go-getter with a large appetite for challenge, who tends to aim high and recover quickly from setbacks.
Astronomically, December 8 puts the Sun near 16° Sagittarius in most years, inside the second ten-degree slice of the sign, which tradition links with Mars. Mars, ruler of Aries, acts as sub-ruler for the middle of Sagittarius, roughly December 2 to December 11. The sign's love of freedom picks up a sharper, more competitive edge. Early-December birthdays are frequently linked with bold, energetic people who are quick to champion a cause, whether on a playing field, in a debate or on the road. Their honesty may be direct enough to startle. Mars brings drive and courage, along with impatience when life moves slowly. Channelled well, this mix of vision and nerve makes for a natural pioneer, someone willing to test an idea in the real world.
Birthday number and Life Path for December 8
A birthday on the 8th gives a birthday number of 8 with nothing to reduce. In numerology the day of birth works as a supporting number, a practical aptitude that colours the Life Path. The 8, drawn as two stacked loops, is traditionally linked with balance between the material and inner worlds, and with authority, organisation and ambition. People born on the 8th are often seen as capable managers of money, time and teams. They may also be hard on themselves when results lag. Generosity with the influence they build is commonly regarded as the 8's best expression.
Add the birth year and the picture shifts again: a December 8 birthday gives Life Path 3 for 1990, 4 for 2000, 5 for 2010 and 6 for 2020. Some birth years on this date reach the master numbers 22 and 33. Read the birthday number as a secondary note beside that main theme.
Season, Chinese zodiac and famous December 8 birthdays
December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 8 is the 342nd day of the year (343rd in a leap year). Counting forward, the next sign change, into Capricorn, is usually complete within 14 days, by December 22.
By December 8 the Chinese new year is well under way, which means the animal and element are those of the calendar birth year. Among the best-known people with a December 8 birthday are Jim Morrison (1943), Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832) and Jean Sibelius (1865).
