December 9 zodiac sign and personality
Seventeen degrees of Sagittarius and the birthday number 9 give December 9 a crusading flavour. Mars, sub-ruler of this decan, supplies courage, while 9 is linked with compassion and the bigger picture. Traditionally, that adds up to an idealist willing to act: someone who joins the campaign, carries the banner and argues passionately for fairness.
On December 9 the Sun usually sits at about 17° Sagittarius, in the second decan, where Mars is the sub-ruler alongside Jupiter. Mars, ruler of Aries, acts as sub-ruler for the middle of Sagittarius, roughly December 2 to December 11. The sign's love of freedom picks up a sharper, more competitive edge. Early-December birthdays are frequently linked with bold, energetic people who are quick to champion a cause, whether on a playing field, in a debate or on the road. Their honesty may be direct enough to startle. Mars brings drive and courage, along with impatience when life moves slowly. Channelled well, this mix of vision and nerve makes for a natural pioneer, someone willing to test an idea in the real world.
December 9 in numerology
Born on the 9th, your birthday number is 9, the last and broadest of the single digits. Numerologists see the birth day as a secondary number that describes a natural gift. The 9 is traditionally associated with compassion, idealism and a wide view of humanity, perhaps because it contains something of every number before it. Those with this birthday often find themselves helping, teaching or creating for audiences beyond their own circle. Letting go can be a recurring theme for 9s, along with learning that finishing one chapter makes space for a better one.
The Life Path, the main number in a numerology chart, also uses the birth year, so it changes from one December 9 birthday to the next: it is 1 for 1960, 2 for 1970, 3 for 1980 and 4 for 1990, for example.
Born on December 9: season, famous birthdays and Chinese zodiac
December birthdays arrive at the start of northern winter, around the shortest days and the year's festivities, and at the start of summer in the southern hemisphere. Sagittarius holds most of the month, with Capricorn beginning around December 21 or 22. In numerology December is month 12, which reduces to 3: expression and sociability, built from the 1 and 2 of initiative and partnership. December 9 is the 343rd day of the year (344th in a leap year). By December 22, 13 days later, the Sun has usually moved on into Capricorn.
For the Chinese zodiac, Lunar New Year has always passed by December 9, so the animal is simply the one for the birth year. Well-known people born on December 9 include Peter Kropotkin (1842), Kirk Douglas (1916) and Jean-Claude Juncker (1954).
